In Ontario Robert Butchart was a shareholder and manager in the Owen Sound Portland Cement Company of Owen Sound, Ontario. The company’s operations were in Shallow Lake, just outside Owen Sound.
Robert Butchart was a founding members, shareholder and manager with the Lakefield Portland Cement Company of Lakefield, Ontario.
In 1910 the Lakefield Portland Cement Company and the Owen Sound Portland Cement Company both became part of the newly incorporated Canada Cement Company.
In 1904 the Vancouver Portland Cement Company was incorporated in British Columbia. The site of the company’s operations at Tod Inlet are now the site of the Butchart Gardens.
Robert Butchart was one of the initial shareholders in the Vancouver Portland Cement Company and was also the company’s Managing Director.
In 1919 the Vancouver Portland Cement Company was merged with its primary competitor, the Associated Portland Cement Company (Canada) Ltd., to create the British Columbia Cement Company.
