Senator George Albertus Cox (1840-1914)
Senator George Albertus Cox (1840-1914) was the leading financier and shareholder, with his business associate Edward Rogers Wood, of the Vancouver Portland Cement Company, whose operations at Tod Inlet (on the site of what is now the Butchart Gardens) were managed by Robert Pym Butchart.
Senator George Albertus Cox was also one of the leading figures in Canadian business in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With his protege and “right hand man”, Edward Rogers Wood, Senator Cox was instrument in creating some iconic companies in Canadian business, including National Trust Company and Dominion Securities.
